It does flush and it does get behind the cold/closed thermostat to an extent (there is a small bypass that is always open), but it does not flush as thoroughly as using muffs on the lower unit intakes. Poppet valves are usually a 3 parts component, very simple to remove with the right tool and cleaned soon after, no need to change it unless shot.

Short of disassembling it, maybe try to attach a stiff plastic or rubber hose to the end of a garden hose and ram it up in there while the water is turned on to try to chip it out or spray it out with the water. So I completely disassembled the flush valve assembly and sure enough, it was completely clogged up with sand. Instruments, VHF Radios & It is 3/4's water after all.
