Out of everybodys price range but someone out there may have a chance to sniff.
22 is kind of elusive but it is worth the while locating it. 22. The only big perfume stores here are Douglas, Mller and Essenza Nobile and they don't carry it.
Oh well, I'm flattered that you think I know perfume.
I also tried 31 rue Cambon which I also loved, specially after an hour.
BoisdeJasmin: Madelyn, what a beautiful memory!
A couple have taken my address and said they would send it. Replies to my comments Or do they discontinue them only here in Germany?
They are so evocative and always seem to have a story to tell, unlike the new ones which are just made to smell like long-lasting deodorants or worse, air fresheners! That said: still good, too, even if they do turn out some crap every now and then..
The sight of the photo of the white pearl is os poignant ..it almost hurts. so I will go check it out.
I thought of your review today, and the comparison with the pearl, which I had already read.
I have called several boutiques to find a sample.
Warm Scented Regards I tried desperately to search for it on Bergdorf, Neiman Marcus, Nordstroms, Macy and Bloomingdales's sites but I didn't manage to find it! I agree that the EDT is too thin.
Please note that Chanel is changing the packaging of its Les Exclusifs collection; therefore, if you have a preference for the original flacons, be sure to act quickly. Have you tried a recent version and do you consider it just as nice?
22 will always be special to me, since its the first real perfume I ever wore. 22 is pumped up into a very intensely powdery variation upon the theme the aldehydes and heliotrope create a dense feeling with a very voluminous translucent silage of flowers and musk..
Indeed if No.
It is gorgeous and looks like this is going to be my signature for a while.
22 is one of Beauxs masterpieces. I used to love the fact that Chanel had an extensive ancillary collection for their classical scents, but this does not seem to be quite the case these days. 22 for the first time today and wanted to share my impressions some background: my mother was a No. (Luckily, my Chanel trials produced two winners: No.
It reminds me in a way of baby powder because it's light and easy on the nose in way that subtly enhances your senses and soothes you completely.
I havent tried the Chanel womens offerings, but their mens fragrances are pretty disappointing.
I remember my grandfather giving my grandmother a bottle of LAir du Temps, and to this day, it is such a special fragrance for me.
Chanel No 22 is part of Les Exclusifs collection, which also includes Gardnia, Bois des les and Cuir de Russie. I never liked the scent of the the edt only the lotion or the body cream.
May 18, 2016 at 9:31am Reply, KatieAnn: Hi Elizabeth. One still has to keep in mind the concept of the line, etc. I got a 2oz spray bottle of parfum for under $40.
Yes, I did, and I just answered.
I'm still a White Floral Girl who adores Songes, OJ Frangipani, and DSH Tubereuse. Thank you very much. PS- No luck w the Absinthe lecture.
I associate fragrances with certain colors including hair color. I hope it is as close to the original as possible. Thanks again for this wonderful review, without which I won't even have found out about Chanel No.
Sadly, I can only remember finding only the EDT .. during the course of my many perfume excursions. 22 to vintage Quelques Fluers Parfum and vintage Bellodgia parfum all three have close olfactive profiles.
Replies to my comments I have called/written Chanel to see if I could get a sample, but they also said no. January 9, 2007 at 1:27pm Reply, BoisdeJasmin: Aryse, the name alone Bel Respiro sounds beautiful! I dont care if it is an edt or edp or oil or anything but it has to smell like the lotion or the body cream. A woman's choice of perfumes tells me a lot about her simply by walking past her. So I just want to say in your face Dior If Chanel can almost identically reproduce their scents from yesteryear, then so could Dior, if they could only take their eyes off the bottom line long enough to read the ingredients!
January 9, 2007 at 10:47am Reply, patchamour: Beautiful review, as always. I called them and asked a few questions.
Maybe because my mother wore perfume and I loved my mother and her femininity. No.
It took me a long time to appreciate No.22 since until a few years ago I was a white flower phobe, but I've seen the error of my ways and this is just divine.
Then, one day at the mall, I discovered Chanel. January 10, 2007 at 2:35pm Reply, BoisdeJasmin: C, I contacted Chanel and they were adamant that they are not discontinuing the parfums.
I love the incense in it. chanel I long to try the parfum though for lifestyle reasons (ease of application, mainly) the EDT works very well for me. 22 grew up with me too but the ones I associated with my teenage years was Cristalle EDP (cos the EDP version was launched when I was 11 or 12 and I immediately asked for it as a birthday present) and Diorissimo as I wore it all through my late teens and early 20s.

Now, I am intrigued enough to find the body lotion. January 9, 2007 at 7:36am Reply.
WHAT can I buy to replace it?
I'm going to Paris in the next month and am thinking i may have to see if i can sniff the parfum myself seeing as i find this so enticing. 5 girl who was appalled by my interest in big white florals. I have a couple of questions. The classic Chanels are superb. A lovely hommage to a fragrance of the calibre of a Rembrandt, Beethoven or Chaucer.
I too was a girl looking for a bigger, better world.
By the way, I have been reading your blog for several months now. I only meant that Putain des Palaces would be the next ELDO review. It might grow on me yet! My first bottle was No.
i received yesterday some Guerlain fragrance samples from Bergdorf Goodman.
Which I didn't like, but hey, it was perfume, and I wore it.) Notify me of replies to my comments via e-mail.
What a shame!
Place a little dab of unscented body lotion in the palm of the hand and mix it gently with a spritz of your fragrance.
I, too associate the splendor that is Chanel No. I knew that was happening w/ Bois des Iles, but somehow had not realized that all of them were meeting w/ that fate.
These scents are calming, which helps with concentration.
it's Chanel! You chose some gorgeous scents to grow up with, that's for sure. You like the classics!
May 17, 2016 at 5:13pm Reply, elizabeth: I recently went to the Surrender to Chance site to order some Chanel Les Exclusifs decants, and the brand is no longer listed. One whiff of the sample tube of Eau de Toilette a few days ago, though, and the scent came right back. Would people within arms length still be able to smell it?
I suppose one can try Saks if there is no Chanel boutique in near proximity. They all seem to be run by behemoths like LVMH who, by the sad decline of their products, keeps tightening the budget for materials (while spending gazillions on marketing). Quelques Fluers is the most soft and restrained, Bellogia is more impactful and very clove bud Absolute and Carnation, with lots of Tolu and Benzoin, while the bouquet of no. 22, I think.
The incense makes it something interesting, and you know enough about Chanel not to be scared off by the aldehydes. Subscribe to followup comments via email.
I sure was one terrific smelling teen.
They are a real gift and inspiration.
I just tried No.
Yes, its powdery, but as someone before me said, Its the ultimate powder scent..
What versions do you all have and where can I get them?
January 10, 2007 at 1:19pm Reply, BoisdeJasmin: Elle, no need to worry!
I havent found this comment by searching the blog, but Im always in need of better concentration, if youd be so kind.
With its composition of white flowers, No 22 was launched as a perfume capturing the spirit of White Look. A lot of scent and a few decades stood between me and Chanel No.
Leave a comment, or read more about commenting at Now Smell This. My mother wore it as well. January 9, 2007 at 1:33pm Reply, BoisdeJasmin: Dear C, I did not hear the parfum discontinuation news, but it would be awful if this were indeed the case!
May 18, 2016 at 10:08am Reply, KatieAnn: I received a response from Surrender to Chance.
While she selected the sample that became No 5, No 22 was introduced in 1922, a year after No 5.
This was my first signature scent.
Now its an Exclusif! I find it a bit tedious to write reviews of fragrances from the same house for a few days days in a row, even if they are different.
No kidding!
I know I have a few Chanel samples, but I don't even think I have a bottle of anything Chanel these days. (And her dad actually had a DeLorean car, believe it or not.).
I cant wait.
I find it very touching.
Good thing that I contacted them to clarify, otherwise I would panic.
January 9, 2007 at 1:33pm Reply, BoisdeJasmin: March, the EDT and the parfum have the same tinge of incense, although I find it very subtle and more of the sandalwood facet than true incense.
October 28, 2014 at 10:44pm Reply, Victoria: A perfect birthday gift to yourself! I hope Chanel stays family owned forever.
A long time ago my wife wore it along with the dusting powder(no longer available sadly)-very girly indeed. On another subject . The top notes are aldehydes, white roses, jasmine, tuberose, lily of the valley, lilac, and orange flower. I love how soothing it is. Ive ordered Chanel from both websites in the past.
I am wondering, though, at the substitution of this for Putain des Palaces.
The difference between the parfum and the EDT is like that between cake made with dark chocolate and one flavored with bittersweet cocoa powder. I have managed to get a sample of the EDT and I am loving this! January 9, 2007 at 1:38pm Reply, BoisdeJasmin: Chaya, it is gorgeous, isnt it! Madelyn E January 10, 2007 at 12:47pm Reply, Sisonne: V, I cant believe what I hear! I love how a beautiful scent can really make the day better. Thank you Sisonne for your caring remark !!!
I'm a redhead with pale skin, and when I first wore No. To place it in the vicinity of such lovely fragrances as Coromondel and Bel Respiro is a gigantic mistake. hi.
Photo of freshwater pearl from Pearls and Jade.
It is a great fragrance to savour by returning to it again and again.
On these pages I explore the world of senses through art, literature, and history.

My first Chanel was #19, purchased for me by my Mom, around the time of my college graduation.
So..I have come to associate this creamy, white creation with romantic love. I think of No22 being worn best on a young girl. 22 was sold in drugstores, along with Nos.
Does that (or the name) conjure up Chanel 22? In other words, both are luscious, but the former is much more so.
I can imagine buying a quarter ounce of the No.
Can anyone comment on the differences between the EDT and Extrait of No. I adore the startling white diffusive qualities this gem radiates.
January 9, 2007 at 9:49am Reply, Sisonne: I cannot believe it because I think even if I like the EdTs the parfums are so beautiful. So when I began testing classic Chanels I saved No.
My add is Dior Homme Cologne: crisp non-sulphurous grapefruit. Im with Elle..my stockpiling impulse is now definitely at odds with my budget side. Star rating: 5 starsoutstanding/potential classic, 4 starsvery good, 3 starsadequate, 2 starsdisappointing, 1 starpoor.
Antoine de St.Exupery. I have never gotten beyond the opening of 22, but you have inspired me to try FWIW throwing that particularly gorgeous musical reference was all it took, it'll be playing in my head at the Macy's fragrance counter today.
It reminds me of frankincense.
Thank you dear Victoria for such an eloquent review as only you can compose. A classical aldehydic floral, it opens up with the sparkle of aldehydes, their slightly starched and metallic tonality lightening their powdery effect.
KatieAnn: Dear Victoria. Surprisingly, I didn't.
They didnt need an elaborate bottle or television ads of a man pretending to be a prince in a puffy shirt to signal quality. Meanwhile, I hope that someone who has smelled it could share his/her thoughts. I am very disappointed that they decided to do this.
Perfume for Life: How Long Will Your Fragrance Collection Last?
This thing loves my skin and I wear it for me ..lucky are those who walk right past me mmm I never want to part.
After twenty minutes, when the shrieking coloratura of the aldehydes fades, a gorgeous duet of white flowers mostly orange flower to me and gentle incense emerges. The whole show lasts about four hours and stays close to my skin.
I love it even though I dont generally like powders.
22, but fewer do now that it's become one of Les Exclusifs.
I could buy it at the mall in the old timber town where I grew up. sigh.
January 10, 2007 at 1:22pm Reply, Washington Cube: I will always be sentimental about Chanel No.
And I still have a few drops of my Tubereuse sample; must buy a FB.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has tried the parfum of this and how it compares to the EDT? January 9, 2007 at 1:44pm Reply, Elle: Gorgeous review!
It is still my favorite Chanel.
January 9, 2007 at 10:41am Reply, Tigs: This one is the powder of all powders for me. 22 for the longest time. (When I was a teen, she vetoed my choices of Sand & Sable AND Coty Muguet de Bois before allowing my grandmother to give me a bottle of Chloe.
You captured what this one's all about.
document.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value", ( new Date() ).getTime() ); Welcome to Bois de Jasmin! I was at Saks Fifth Avenue last Fall on Manhatten and they were selling the 200 ml EDT at $150 (or it could be $175) though I didn't get it then.
Boy, Id love to smell the extrait!
January 9, 2007 at 2:44pm Reply, Madelyn E: Dear Victoria,
I ended up buying the No. Heady, indolic, intoxicating
I always thought the EDT was beautiful but too sweet and a little thin. 22 bath oil.
To me, Chanel fragrances were the epitome of chic. patricia January 9, 2007 at 2:28pm Reply, Sisonne: V, I emailed Chanel & they told me that will discontinue the parfums.
I kind of like aldehydes I don't tend to seek them out, but they're never a problem for me so I began to enjoy the phase where the aldehydes melt into the heart florals, getting sweeter and warmer every minute.
